Biocultural Conservation Institute Pillar: Compatible Enterprises

Entrepreneurial ventures support community wellbeing by providing income, food, and nutrition security; creating local jobs; and offering pathways out of poverty. Ventures that support both environmental and community wellbeing are considered compatible with BCI’s mission. Examples of sustainable entrepreneurial ventures include local farming businesses and ecotourism activities.

Our Commitment

We work with community partners to develop sustainable ventures that support both people and wildlife. Ventures rooted in community needs and values, and that tap into existing skillsets are likely to succeed. The ventures we support are proposed and developed by community partners familiar with local skill sets and needs.

Our commitment is to invest in compatible enterprises developed by members of our partner communities and to nurture, support, and celebrate their growth and long-term success.
