Rafiki was a rare silverback mountain gorilla and the leader of a 17-member family group of human-habituated gorillas in Uganda’s Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. Rafiki, whose name means “friend” in Swahili, was tragically killed by poachers in an act of self defense in 2020. This stunning original painting of the silverback by artist Lisa Kaplan is now available for a minimum donation of $1000. 100% of the donation will benefit frontline communities of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park.

Artist Statement
“I personally feel that looking at a painting should be an emotional experience for the viewer. Whether it’s being able to imagine yourself in a beautiful landscape setting, or locking eyes with a leopard and getting a sense of its power and beauty. Feeling a connection to the painting is what art is all about.”
